New Google Places Search Functionality

If you’ve done a search on Google recently you’ll notice that the results page is evolving. The Google Places feature has been enhanced, and now local business listings show up with more detail than ever before. This detail includes additional review sites, such as Yelp, Doctor Base and much more. In short, your Google local business listing is much more important.

Google is now more effectively showing local search results for general search queries. For example, if you search for “Indian food” or “museums” you will see that a prominent section of the results page shows local businesses. This has existed in the past; however, Google’s Places functionality has evolved to now incorporate up to 50 million places.

So what does this mean to you and your practice?
1) Your local business listing needs to be well optimized: make sure your keywords are used in the correct places
2) You need reviews: not just on Google, but also Yelp, DoctorBase, etc.
3) You need a complete profile: you need to have videos and images in your local business profile
